Lived experience advisory group

At Voices in Exile, we believe the people who use our services should shape the work we do. Their lived experiences bring authenticity, insight, and a true understanding of the challenges they face, helping to inform meaningful and effective support.

We hope that the Lived-Experience Advisory Group will create a more structured and consistent platform for people with lived experience to influence our strategic and service delivery plans.  It will also help amplify migrant voices both within our organisation and in the wider community.

We recognise that this group needs to be collaborative from the beginning. If you are interested in taking part, contact sue.shaw@voicesinexile.org.

For the purposes of this group, ‘Lived experience’ refers to people with direct experience of seeking safety in the UK and navigating the UK immigration and asylum system.

I’m a retired GP and moved to Brighton from Manchester 10 years ago. Some of my patients in Brighton were refugees and I saw how hard it was for them. I wanted to do something useful when I retired and Voices in Exile felt like a good fit. I have done my best [mentoring] two healthcare professionals (service users) in their search for work in the healthcare sector. They have a lot to offer and will be an asset to the NHS.
