About

Our Work

Our work focuses on supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants at risk to rebuild their lives, while addressing the structural barriers that lead to exclusion and destitution.

What we do

Three connected areas of work

A holistic, person-centred approach - meeting immediate needs while tackling the causes of exclusion and inequality.

Providing specialist advice & holistic support

We provide casework for people facing destitution or homelessness, alongside free IAA Level 2 immigration advice outside the scope of legal aid, helping people secure status, access essential services, and build safer, more stable lives.

Building resilience & inclusive communities

We provide safe, welcoming spaces where people improve wellbeing, develop skills and build social connections. Through ESOL, wellbeing groups and practical support, we reduce isolation and strengthen confidence.

Driving systems change & influencing policy

Drawing on frontline evidence and lived experience, we provide training to local services and advocate for fairer policies and better systems. Through campaigning, partnerships and participation, we amplify lived-experience voices and challenge the causes of poverty and inequality.

Case study

Building a new life, one step at a time

Resettlement · from Afghanistan
A family rebuilding togetherSupported by our Resettlement & ESOL teams

Their story

“They were there for us at every step.”

When the family arrived in the UK, everything felt new and unfamiliar. Their caseworker helped them understand how things work, showed them around the city, and accompanied them to important appointments — so they felt less alone and more confident.

Through our in-house ESOL classes their English grew, opening the door to further courses and the confidence to travel independently and manage everyday life.

A year on, the children are settled and active in the community, and the family is looking ahead – with new friendships, growing independence, and hope for the future.

"Voices in Exile helped us build the confidence to start a new life here."

In their words

Voices from our community

The most important thing for me is that I’m safe here. I have started a new life. I am learning English, working and earning money.
